UKI FISHING / UKI FUKASE FISHING
Q & A
What kind of fish are targeted in UKI FISHING ?
UKI FISHING is a method of fishing at the same range. The most common form is to attract fish by accumulating heavy attractant bait on near the sea bottom and then dangling hook baits in the same spot. In Japan, it is used when targeting fish that eat bait near the sea bottom such as black bream (CHINU) and red sea bream.

What kind of fish are targeted in UKI FUKASE fishing?
UKI FUKASE FISHING is effective when targeting fish that eat bait as it falls from above. After lighter attractant bait is scattered, hook bait is cast into this area at the same speed as the attractant bait falls to catch the fish. It is most commonly used to catch blackfish (GURE) in Japan, but can also be used for black bream and red sea bream.

What is FUKASE FISHING ?
'FUKASE' refers to floating a rig with only the weight of the bait, a hook and fishing line in the water. FUKASE FISHING is a simple form of fishing where the bait floats naturally in the water, so the fish take the bait without any caution. However, you can only fish in the vicinity of the length of the rod and cannot cast a long distance. UKI FUKASE FISHING was devised as a form of fishing where the UKI is used instead of a sinker.

What are the benefits of both a stick float and a ball float?
When the sea bottom is calm and you are trying to attract the fish there, it is better to use a stick float where it is easy to see even the slightest sign of a bite. This float is recommended for beginners as you are fishing at a fixed depth. On the other hand, if you are UKI FUKASE FISHING with a light rig, there are rough conditions at the sea bottom, or the tide is moving fast, it is much more effective to use a ball float.

How are CHINU baits and GURE baits different?
As black bream (CHINU) usually eat bait close to the sea bottom, we have a long line-up of heavier baits that stay on the hook in our CHINU range. In areas where the tide is moving quickly or there are many smaller fish, it is difficult to attract fish as lighter baits cannot reach the sea bottom. On the other hand, GURE attractant baits are lighter and have stickiness so you can cast a longer distance. We have a wide range of baits that diffuse as soon as they enter the water and fall over a wider range. You should select a bait that matches the area you're fishing in, and the characteristics of the fish..

Are CHINU and GURE baits only effective for black bream and blackfish respectively ?
Bream and blackfish are the most common target fish for UKI and UKI FUKASE FISHING. That's why we have differentiated between black bream (CHINU) baits and blackfish (GURE) baits. However, if you choose a bait that closely matches the characteristics of the fish you're trying to catch, these baits can still be just as effective for other fish.

There are many kinds of baits, so it is difficult to know which one to choose.
Even though you may be targeting the same fish, the conditions and eating habits of the fish can change depending on the fishing area and season. This is the same as the difference in what humans want to eat depending on whether they are feeling good or sick. You can check the characteristics of each bait on its character chart and then choose a bait that best matches the conditions of the fish and your own fishing style. For example, if you are going to a fishing area that requires you to cast a longer distance to the fishing point, you had better choose a bait with high castability.

Most of the products recommend on the back of the package that you should mix it with frozen krill, so does that mean you can't use it without frozen krill?
You can definitely still use it. There's no problem mixing it with anything that has been crushed into small pieces, such as raw shrimp, fish meat, squid or shellfish. Casting only minced meat like this to a certain point is very difficult and most of it would be eaten by smaller fish near the water surface. In order to prevent this from happening, you should mix it with our compound baits. Although we recommend mixing it with seafood products, as our compound baits contain a lot of ingredients and powders that attract fish, you can even use it effectively by simply kneading it with water.
